Family Hub: Samsung latest's voice-controlled takes smartness to a next level

Along with a literal wall of a television, and new QLEDs with AI for 8K, Samsung's "First Look: event ahead of CES 2018 had some news about Bixby, SmartThings and Universal Guide".

The new model is an evolution of the original Family Hub fridge from 2016, and is now on show at this week's CES 2018 Las Vegas tech show.

Like Amazon Alexa, Bixby can be controlled by your voice, and can help you out with daily tasks. The company will be showing off the new Family Hub refrigerator this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show so watch out for that one fridge that integrates Samsung's SmartThings IoT ecosystem and Bixby. It makes use of intelligent connectivity as offered by SmartThings and the Bixby voice control. The SmartThings app seamlessly connects the Family Hub with hundreds of Samsung and third party compatible connected devices. Users can adjust the thermostat, switch off smart bulbs and even leave a note for family members from the screen on the fridge. Well, apart from hearing Miss Bixby from speaking clearly, you will be able to stream music from Pandora, which is one of the built-in app, and also stream music from your smartphone, you will also be able to have videos playing on the fridge's display as well.

The new app called Meal Planner will show recipes based on users food preferences and restrictions on diet and will provide details on new shopping deals on grocery and food items on online stores.

As an example of something you can do with Bixby on your fridge, users can ask, "What's new?" and get tailored responses featuring upcoming calendar events, weather information, news, and more. Users can access millions of songs through various music streaming platforms and live radio apps, and mirror their Samsung Smart TV1.

If you don't fancy hearing all the awful meetings you have coming up then you might want to use the speaker system, which can stream music directly from your connected smartphone to be broadcast through the high-quality AKG speakers built into the doors.

Family Hub is a smart fridge that knows your needs.
