Airtel updates Rs 448, Rs 509 plans to go against Jio

Reliance Jio cuts Rs 50 from internet plans as a New Year scheme

In the Q4 of previous year, telecom operator Airtel announced two new tariff plans priced at ₹448 and ₹509 respectively for its prepaid customers which offered benefits like free voice calls and 1 GB data per day. Notably, Airtel has revised its Rs 448 and Rs 509 prepaid plans to take on Jio, which now come with a longer validity period. The firm will also offer 20% more data to users of the Rs. 399 plan by enhancing its validity by two weeks under its Happy New Year 2018 offer, they added. Prepaid users must recharge with a minimum Jio Rs 399 plan to be eligible for this Surprise Cashback offer. Apart from this price cut, Jio will also launch a host of plans with 1.5GB data per day as part of the exercise.

All these data packs come with their similar offer of unlimited calls, SMS bundle, and access to Jio's bundle of applications. The validity of this plan will be 28 days. The first one on the chopping block is Jio's Rs 199 tariff which will now go for just Rs 149. After Reliance Jio made a recent attempt to give competitors a tough time, the leader of the Indian telecom market Airtel revealed it had a neat trick up its sleeve. This means what Jio was offering at Rs. 199 prepaid recharge plan will now be available at Rs. 149 only. Airtel has increased its validity from 84 days to 91 days. Under this offer, customers will get 28GBs of 4G data with a daily cap of 1GB data. The telco now offers either 50 per cent more data or has cut down the tariff of the plan by Rs 50.

There are also Rs 399 and Rs 449 schemes which give away 84GB and 91GB of data, respectively. In total, the plan is offering 70GB of data. FUP or daily data limit is 1GB.

Given that Airtel's revised plans are slightly costlier than what Jio offers now, it makes no sense for users to switch networks.

Rs 498 plan: The new data amount is 136GB 4G data for 91 days.
