Dick Vitale turns on ESPN for LaVar Ball coverage

Editorials5 players the Lakers will try to bring in to build around Lonzo Ball

Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, who's also the head of the coaches association, was less than pleased.

His father's comments aside, Ball is third on the team with 33.7 minutes a night.

During the meeting they asked for a more positive tone from LaVar Ball.

In an interview with ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman, Ball expressed some issues with Walton, including his age, his control of the team and the idea of him coaching either LeBron James or Paul George should either made a decision to come to the Lakers this offseason.

But the focus moving forward is all on one side of the ball.

Lakers executives met with LaVar Ball on November 29 to ask him to tone down comments he had made questioning Walton's rotations and overall usage of his son, the No. 2 pick in June's draft. Still, anyone who's paid even semi attention to Ball over the previous year isn't surprised. "As long as Zo's fine with it and Zo can come out and play ... then it doesn't bother me at all".

Walton said he "would disagree" with the assertion he had lost the locker room. "We're going to play for him".

He added, after a follow-up question: "My job is to play basketball".

The Lakers still have not recovered from that brutal stretch, as the team has lost 11 of its last 12 games and has fallen from being an outside contender for the playoffs to the worst record in the Western Conference.

"I don't see that our players aren't playing hard", Walton responded to Ball's father's comments. The press is going to make it out like I'm trying to demean them or they're trying to demean me. "Whatever those meetings [with LaVar Ball in the past] are, I'm not concerned with those".

LaVar seemingly wants to get rid of Lakers coach Luke Walton, too. "I've said all along, 'there're always parents and parents are going to get mad at things".

Clearly, LaVar is a father who wants to have input on how his sons are coached, who they play with, and what they do on the court. "We [ownership, front office] talk all the time, and there're 100 percent behind in supporting what we're doing here".
