'PUBG' gets more competition as 'Paladins' adds battle royale game mode

'Paladins' Is Getting Its Own Battle Royale Mode, 'Battlegrounds'

Battlegrounds features "more than four dozen outposts" and staple features of battle royale modes like a shrinking play area, looting for gear and scouting for zeppelins high in the sky, which will drop "legendary gear" onto the playing field.

Hi-Rez Studios announced that its team based shooter, Paladins, will be getting a new "battle royale" mode called Paladins: Battlegrounds.

The game is based on Hi-Rez's previous title, Paladins, which in many ways is similar to Overwatch: the characters are similar, the setting is similar and the gameplay is similar. In the face of the rising trend, more games are adding similar modes to their makeup, however this one's name raised a few eyebrows-given how closely it reflects PUBG Corp's megahit PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Feline fans will be happy to learn about the new mount type, Battle Cats; the first one is the Primal Prowler and will be exclusively available for free to Twitch Prime subscribers.

Paladins' iteration of battle royale will be called Battlegrounds.

Other than the class abilities and mounts (neither of which appear in PUBG), Paladins appears to be the latest game to be tempted by the growing genre. The 100-player mode will introduce a massive Paladins map that Hi-Rez claims is 300 times the size of a regular Paladins siege map.

Paladins: Battlegrounds will be a standalone game, separate from Paladins, and will be supported separately.

In related news, Hi=Rez also announced a new Team Death Match mode, a new map and there 's also the keynote speech from the expo (see videos below). The magician "rides a summoned two-headed dragon into battle, feeding it snacks to reload its magical energy". It will be available alongside a new map, Trade District.

Paladins: Battlegrounds is set for a release later this year.

There's also a new game mode coming, though it is the most common of all: Team Deathmatch.
