PTI rubbishes reports of Imran Khan's third marriage

Imran Khan

Opposition leader and former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan is believed to have tied the knot for the third time with a woman he used to visit for spiritual guidance, Pakistani daily The News claimed today. However, some PTI leaders in their individual capacity either rejected the news or termed it a purely "private matter".

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry had earlier said the party will issue an important press statement today on the reports of party chief Imran Khan's third marriage.

According to media reports, Imran Khan has been visiting Manika family for last two years.

The covert wedding ceremony was reported to have been carried out by Mufti Saeed, a member of the core committee of Khan's PTI party.

Monday's ceremony took place at the residence of a close confidante of the bride who is said to be Khan's friend.

However, Bushra's son who on Saturday appeared on a local news channel categorically denied the report that her mother had married Imran Khan. "Considering my 35-year-long association and keeping in view the fact that I have been privy to his personal life, I can say with absolute confidence that nothing like this occurred". Her former husband confirmed the separation which, he said, they opted for spiritual reasons. Now, the latest report in this regard claimed that Khan had actually married that woman.

Similarly, spokesman for the party head, Naeem-ul-Haq also dismissed this, adding that if Khan was to marry, he would do so after the general elections.

Imran Khan first tied the knot with Jemima Khan on May 16, 1995 that ended in divorce after nine years on June 22, 2004. His second marriage was with Reham Khan, a TV anchor, which lasted only 10 months.

The paper says that the man who presided over the marriage, Mufti Saeed, was "more hesitant to issue any denial".
