Plane evacuated after Toronto airport collision

Emergency crews are on scene after two planes came into contact with each other on the tarmac at Toronto's Pearson International Airport

The aircraft was stationary and waiting for a gate when the Sunwing plane, which was being pushed back from the gate, ran into it.

Passengers have been forced to evacuate using emergency slides after two planes collided in Toronto.

A spokesman for the Transportation Safety Board, Canada's transportation regulator, said a team was headed to the airport to investigate.

There were 168 passengers and six crew members aboard the arriving airplane, according to Lauren Stewart, a WestJet spokeswoman.

But passengers have offered accounts of confusion aboard the plane and allegations that procedures were not clearly communicated.

Fire and emergency services responded to the collision on Saturday between a Sunwing Airlines aircraft and Westjet Airlines plane.

"Certainly we would look into the evacuation procedures", he said in an interview.

No one was injured injuries have been reported.

Flight attendants eventually evacuated the passengers, who had just landed at the airport after flying in from Cancun, Mexico, on emergency slides.

He said the resulting commotion made it hard to hear instructions from the flight crew, adding what information came through was sometimes contradictory.

She only realised how serious the situation had been once she was out of the plane.

Toronto's Pearson Airport said on Twitter that some flight operations had been impacted by the incident and an investigation was underway.

Sunwing said there were no crew or passengers aboard its aircraft, which was being towed by the airline's ground handling service at the time of the incident.

Ali Alagheband, an engineer from Toronto, says chaos erupted when the plane was struck and a fire started outside.
