Paul Pierce Doesn't Want Isaiah Thomas Tribute Video During Jersey Retirement

The question is: When should he get one?

Isaiah Thomas made his first return to Boston on Wednesday night since he was traded by the Celtics to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer.

For his part, Thomas said he understands that February 11 would be Pierce's night, but he didn't see the harm in having a moment set aside so the Celtics could note his contributions, which included setting team records for scoring average and player efficiency rating while nearly always being the smallest player on the court.

However, Pierce is not a fan of the change, as his No. 34 jersey is being retired February 12.

The 28-year-old Thomas, who spent two and a half years with the Celtics, wants to not only be in the lineup and at full health when he's tributed, but also wants his family to be in attendance so that they can see the "love and appreciation" that Boston had for him.

But alas, this is the National Basketball Association, where free agency decisions are broadcast as made-for-TV movies. "I just wanted my family to be here to see it", Thomas said Wednesday (via the AP), after he watched his Cleveland Cavaliers lose in Boston, 102-88. The video tribute ain't the whole night. Judging from Paul Pierce's latest tweet, The Truth may end up setting someone on fire (metaphorically) in fewer than 280 characters. "He did 15 years here, so there's nothing I can take from him". "I would be honored". "I think it won't interfere with Paul". It'll be a great moment.

During a radio interview on Thursday, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said he didn't see any problem with a brief tribute to their former guard and confirmed that they still plan to run with it.

Despite all the noise he's made after leaving the team, Thomas is still deserving of his tribute, and Ainge did the right thing by granting Thomas' request.
