Chelsea boss Conte backs Morata after blunt show

Antonio Conte says that he is just telling Alvaro Morata to "keep calm" as the striker goes through an "unlucky period", culminating in a hard night in front of goal during Chelsea's chaotic 2-2 draw at Arsenal. "Don't forget he's young, only 25, and it's the first season he's playing regularly", Conte told reporters.

"Especially as in my history I've rarely been given the players I asked for".

Chelsea have been unable to prise left back Alex Sandro from Juventus, while Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal is another player Conte would love to sign.

Antonio Conte does not sound too happy about the transfer policy at the clubs he has been at, saying he rarely gets the players he wants.

'I always ended up at clubs who were running an austerity programme.

"I just think in the January window you go big if you're going to sign somebody", Sinclair explained on Chelsea TV.

Conte has maintained that Luiz's omission was for tactical reasons but media reports have constantly suggested there is a rift between the Brazilian and his manager, and the 30-year-old has been linked with several top clubs.

But he added: "My expectation is all the players we have in the squad will stay here and continue to work". In this case, when I tell that I give my opinion to the club, I try to tell where are the roles we can improve also on the numerical aspect because in some roles we don't have a couple of players.

The Blues boss said: "When you are winning 2-1 and there are two minutes to go, I think we have to win the game".

"No disrespect to Vardy, but he's probably at his peak and going the other way now, rather than being a player that's really [peaking]".
