Apple acquires Vancouver-based Buddybuild to simplify development of iPhone apps

As the App Store is set to celebrate its ten year anniversary this July, iOS developers have been paid over $86 billion United States dollars, since the store launched in 2008. Apple confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch, as well. Until now, Buddybuild has offered its services to iOS and Android customers. Similarly, when Apple acquired TestFlight, it also discontinued Android compatibility, which removed a vital development tool from the ecosystem of Google.

Many Industry experts continue to argued that since IOS is a closed operating system, it won't exactly dominate the app market like Android, which is an open source operating system.

Meanwhile, Buddybuild says, "For iOS developers, Buddybuild can take care of all the work associated with code signing, and managing provisioning profiles for you". For Apple, it is to create a secure environment for app building by each git push. It should also be noted that the startup will working on the Android app development that it had started last February.

Apple has been prioritising its services business, which includes the App Store, as global smartphone sales slow.

Consumers spent $300 million on apps on January 1, the most for a single day since the App Store launched in 2008.

Now, the acquisition of BuddyBuild could help Apple up the number of downloads, which is still behind Google's Android.

Buddybuild was founded in 2015 by former Amazon employees Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott.

"We want to thank all of the creative app developers who have made these great apps", he added.

The move echoes Apple's acquisition of TestFlight back in 2014, which began to require users to employ Xcode to utilize the service. Many high-profile clients are using Buddybuildm including Mozilla and The New York Times.
