Two students shot outside Washington high school, sheriff's office says

Police respond to school shooting in Graham Washington

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students were shot at Graham-Kapowsin High School in Graham.

KOMO reports that a getaway vehicle has also been located in connection with Tuesday's shooting at Graham-Kapowsin High School. Deputies were actively sweeping the school grounds, but said there was no indication the suspects were on campus.

"We got out to the school and found that there were two students who had been shot", said Troyer.

"Deputies are actively sweeping the school grounds, at this point no indications that shooters are on campus", The Pierce County Sheriff's Office tweeted.

The high school is located at 108th Avenue East and Eustis Hunt Road East in Graham, in Pierce County, and the gunshots were reportedly fired on the Eustis Hunt Road side of the campus.

Troyer also clarified that it appears the shooting happened across the street from the school, about 30 to 40 yards away and over a fence.

Police believe the shooting occurred off school property.

He noticed he was following sheriff's deputies on the way, and he was told to leave the parking lot when he arrived. Graham-Kapowsin and the other schools that were put on lockdown will follow a normal schedule on Wednesday, which is a scheduled late start for the Bethel School District.

Four schools in the district went under lockdown, but Graham Elementary students were recently released to their buses, per the district.

"I was actually kinda calm because we've been trained since really early on to know what to do in these situations", said Graham-Kapowsin ninth-grader James Baker. "I'm just praying for the parents of the other kids". The male students shot were hospitalized and expected to survive.

The school district also tweeted that their thoughts and prayers are with everyone who were involved in the shooting and added they were proud of how their students and staff reacted to the incident.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is offering a reward for information in the case through Crime Stoppers.
