Supreme Court allows full enforcement of Trump's travel ban

Supreme Court allows full enforcement of Trump's travel ban

Despite the Supreme Court action Monday, Matt Adams, legal director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, which also has fought Trump's travel restrictions in court, said he's hopeful the ban will be struck down.

He expressed regret that the court's move gives "bigotry full license in USA".

"We are not surprised by today's Supreme Court decision permitting immediate enforcement of the President's proclamation limiting travel from countries presenting heightened risks of terrorism", the White House said. "The proclamation is the third order the president has signed this year banning more than 100 million individuals from Muslim-majority nations from coming to the United States", they wrote.

Meanwhile, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals are set to hear arguments against the ban later this week, and these challenges could (hopefully) stall the implementation of the ban. Citing statements from Mr. Trump, some made as a presidential candidate and some more recent, Judge Chuang found that the new proclamation was tainted by religious animus and most likely violated the Constitution's prohibition of government establishment of religion.

"We agree a speedy resolution is needed for the sake of our universities, our businesses and most of all, for people marginalized by this unlawful order", Hawaii Attorney General Douglas Chin said.

The Trump administration has argued that "extensive worldwide review process" preceded the travel ban and the third order is different from the previous versions.

The administration has appealed both decisions to federal appeals courts in Seattle and Richmond, Va. Arguments in those appeals are scheduled for this week.

The second run out in September following a long courtroom battle and it was substituted for the current version.

Trump's travel ban was challenged by Hawaii and American Civil Liberties Union in separate lawsuits.

Trump said it's a matter of national security. "However, there was no ruling yet on the merits of the ban itself, so it's still possible that it can be overturned". The Council on American-Islamic Relations also criticized the decision but remained hopeful that the decision would be challenged in the future. The new travel restrictions mean a central figure in her family, her father-in-law, won't be permitted to visit the USA from Yemen.

She's talking about her octagenarian father-in-law. He has repeatedly confirmed it, including just last week on Twitter. "We can't send him back to Yemen where bullets are flying and missiles may be overhead".

"All it takes is a simple Google search and we see that the real threat is internal [to the US]". "This lie of trying to make things secure, it's nothing but deceit".

ME has thousands of Somali immigrants, many of whom are still waiting for family members to be able to come to the United States.

"To be honest, it's emotional for me, because the belief that I've always had in this country is really being tested", she said, her voice shaking.
