JNU cancels talk by Subramanian Swamy on 'why Ram mandir in Ayodhya'

SC adjourns hearing in Ayodhya dispute case to February 2018

Sibal had on Tuesday urged the court to take up the 25-year-old matter up only after July 2019, stating that the case was being used to polarise the electorate with an eye on the polls.

BJP president Amit Shah accused the Congress of adopting double standards saying Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is visiting temples but its senior leader Kapil Sibal is being used by the party to delay the Ayodhya case.

Modi attacked Sibal for linking the Ram temple issue to the Lok Sabha elections.

Sibal, a former Union minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance that governed India between 2004 and 2014, was appearing for one of the litigants in the case, but the Congress was quick to clarify on Wednesday that his plea was not consistent with its stand. Congress leader Anand Sharma said that Prime Minister was diverting the issue from lack of development in Gujarat.

"Now that Sunni Waqf Board has said that they don't agree with what Kapil Sibal said in court, it is certain that Sibal spoke in his capacity as a Congress leader, with the blessings of their high command".

Watch accompanying video for more details. "Or, is it the case that the board and the Congress are working in tandem?" he asked. Regarding the entire controversy, Sibal said that, " Will discussion on my going to the court & representing someone solve serious problems in the country?

Another party to the case, Haji Mehboob said he also wanted early disposal of the matter and did not approve of Sibal's stand. His statement in the court yesterday was wrong.

His contention was, however, not accepted by the court which made a decision to hear the matter on February 8 next year.

Swamy further said that the hearing for Babri Masjid-Ram Janmbhoomi had begun where both parties had to put their positions before court, but Kapil Sibal said that the court can not proceed since they have not received all the documents.

"But you dare say that the case should not be heard till 2019 elections. I also appeal to Rahul ji to tell us what his view on this is", said the BJP chief. We want a solution to the issue at the earliest.

To a question on Sunni Waqf Board's position, Rehmani said that he has not had any talk with it in this regard.
