The Marlins have deals in place to trade Giancarlo Stanton to either the Giants and Cardinals.

The question now is whether Stanton will waive his no-trade clause and go along with either. In fact, previous suggestions were that the Giants themselves might be favored to land the slugger.

Execs from the Giants and Cardinals met in recent days with Stanton's representatives, and Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports that Stanton himself was present for both meetings. They can't take on a large portion of the $295 million remaining on Stanton's deal.

As of Sunday, the Dodgers and Marlins were still in contact regarding Stanton, but have not made progress toward a deal, according to one source.

MLB Rumors: Stanton Waiting On Dodgers, Ohtani To Start Meeting With Teams & More

Miami's season ended a little over two months ago, so the team has acted quickly to try to move its best player. As such, the rumor mill is buzzing with potential free agent signings and trade talks, especially around the future of Giancarlo Stanton.

Stanton, 28, has no desire to be part of a rebuilding process, which the Marlins will be entering under new ownership, featuring point man Derek Jeter.

Stanton would help the Giants in the home run department as they finished dead last in home runs in 2017. His contract allows him to opt out after the 2020 season, which would guarantee only three seasons with his next team. The Marlins are said to have interest in second baseman Joe Panik, who won't be a free agent until 2021.
