World first for new Infiniti QX50

VC-Turbo

New ute features breakthrough engine and helps round out SUV portfolio.

The QX50 is the first production vehicle ever to feature an engine with variable compression - Infiniti's new VC-Turbo gasoline engine.

THE latest SUV from Japanese premium marque Infiniti will feature a world first in engine technology when it arrives next year.

"The 2019 QX50 is the most important vehicle we have ever launched, and it embodies everything the brand stands for: handsome design, advanced technology and empowering performance".

Infiniti will launch the 2019 QX50 into Canadian dealerships in spring 2018. Wide beam LED headlights similar to those used on the new Infiniti Q60 sports coupe are also fitted.

In terms of design, the QX50's SUV aerodynamic exterior reinterprets Infiniti's distinctive design language of Powerful Elegance whilst continuing with its now familiar signature design cues.

The 2019 QX50, which rides on an all-new front-wheel-drive-based platform, looks nearly exactly like the concept auto that preceded it, sporting Infiniti's signature "Powerful Elegance" design language and some distinctive proportions. Inside there's more space than before with higher quality materials with an asymmetric layout.

THe QX50 will sport a 2.0-liter inline-4 VC-Turbo engine that generates 268 HP and 280 pound-feet of torque yet will still provide an estimated 27 miles to the gallon (26 MPG if you turn on the AWD).

The QX50 will also feature ProPILOT Assist technology, created to operate discreetly and react autonomously to certain driving situations, supporting the driver with a range of empowering "co-pilot" features, placing them in total control.

The new 2.0 litre four cylinder unit is capable of changing its compression ratio on the fly by adjusting the pistons' stroke, producing efficiency or power. As a compelling alternative to diesel, it also challenges the notion that only hybrid and diesel powertrains can deliver both high torque and efficiency.
