Bungie confirms and deactivates Destiny 2's hidden XP scaling system

According to Destiny 2's website, the free trial will give you access to two worlds - the European Dead Zone and the moon of Titan.

In the meantime, Bungie Game Director Luke Smith took to Twitter amidst the heat of the all of this and promised information next week on updates and economy changes.

The XP scaling system would actively reduce how much each XP point was worth on your experience bar.

Previously, XP would scale up or down depending on the activity that players were participating in.

Currently, XP will scale up when playing longer or fixed duration activities like Crucible competitive multiplayer matches and the Leviathan Raid, and XP will scale down when playing activities that can be quickly, repeatedly chained, like grinding Public Events.

As far as what the free trial will contain, players can expect to experience the first section of the single-player campaign. These special engrams hold unique items like shaders, emotes, ships, sparrows, and more. Player progress will be restricted to level 7, but characters will carry over to the full game if and when it's purchased.

It's notable that the free trial for Bungie's latest shooter arrives just days before the first expansion for the game is due to arrive; Curse of Osiris is the first DLC expansion for Destiny 2 and is set to arrive on December 5. Coupled with the community outrage over the issue, the studio immediately deactivated it at the end of last week so you should already see the changes in your recent gameplay sessions. This week's stream will focus on some of the new weapons and gear that comes with the downloadable content.
