Speaking to five branches of the military serving overseas via satellite from Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump highlighted how the U.S. military is "really winning" since he took office.

Speaking from a gilded room at his Mar-a-Lago club, Trump said: "We're not fighting anymore to just walk around, we're fighting to win, and you people are really, you've turned it around over the last three to four months like nobody's seen, and they are talking about it, so thank you very much".

In an address in which bragged about a soaring stock market, record job figures, and "big, lovely fat tax cuts" the military personnel could look forward to at home, he also claimed USA forces were repeatedly defeating Isis militants - something he also sought to take credit for.

He claimed United States marines had scored "defeat after defeat" on Isis, something he said was possible because of a strategy he put in place.

Following the call, Trump went to help hand out food to Coast Guardsmen in Riviera Beach, Florida. He said they were "fighting for something good". "We want to let you win", Trump said, referencing the Obama administration. They were letting you play even.

After leaving the Coast Guard facility, Trump and his motorcade headed for Trump International Golf Club, the Associated Press reported.

Retired Lieutenant General Mark Hertling appeared on CNN Thursday to discuss President Donald Trump's Thanksgiving call to USA service members - and called the president's remarks "somewhat insulting" and "off-kilter". "When we sell to other countries - you never know about an ally - an ally can turn", he said.

The President is spending Thanksgiving at his resort in West Palm Beach. Everybody in this country is watching and they are seeing positive reports for a change.

President Donald Trump wished the media a Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday and then joked he was firing them.
