As GOP senators and governors continued to repudiate Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore over allegations that he had sexual contact with teenage girls while he was in his 30s, White House aides appeared on Sunday morning televsion to bash the candidate, too - but with some telling caveats.

He suggested that Republicans "should consider a write-in" candidate for the Alabama Senate race but said there's "no easy solution". "I think that's a responsible way to approach this".

"You know, this is a awful situation, almost 40-year-old allegation, we'll probably never know for sure exactly what happened", said Toomey, R-Pa, told NBC.

Moore, 70, an outspoken Christian conservative who once erected a monument of the Ten Commandments in the Alabama Supreme Court, has vehemently denied the allegations as "fake news".

Toomey did not rule out the possibility that Senate Republicans might work to unseat Moore if he wins the special election against Democrat Doug Jones on December 12. The incidents were first reported by The Washington Post. We have to afford him the chance to defend himself, " he said.

Despite pressure from top Republicans to drop out of the race following the allegations, Moore has pledged to stay in the race and disprove the accusations. Kate McKinnon as Jeff Sessions! On Saturday, Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee tweeted that, "I'm sorry, but even before these reports surfaced, Roy Moore's nomination was a bridge too far".

A defiant Roy Moore on Saturday insisted the allegations of sexual misconduct decades ago were false and voters in Alabama would "see through this charade".

During the primary, Trump joined Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and much of the GOP establishment in supporting Sen.
