Wilshere was left out of the England squad by manager Gareth Southgate for their friendlies with Germany and Brazil, despite a number of players dropping out through injury.

Hodgson believes Wilshere "has the creative quality his side needs to climb out of the bottom three in the Premier League", and he's also cautiously optimistic that the prospect of playing regularly at Selhurst Park could persuade the 25-year-old to give it a go.

England manager Gareth Southgate has identified what Jack Wilshere has to do at Arsenal in order to get back into the England team (via The Metro).

Ex-Eagles boss Alan Pardew failed to land Wilshere in a loan swoop at the the beginning of last season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has urged Jack Wilshere to leave North London at the end of the season and try his luck overseas at 'a club like AC Milan'. But we are not playing with a 10 tomorrow.

"I don't think Jack is a ten", Merson told Sky Sports News. But at the same time, [Jesse] Lingard has started less games than Wilshere.

Wilshere: "I want to be playing for my country".

"You'd have to ask Arsene why he wasn't at Arsenal last year and you'd have to ask Eddie why he played him as a 10 last year". I work with Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players, and Jack Wilshere's name has never been mentioned in this room.

"Now you are telling me we have been linked with him, but by who?"

"I am hoping that we are in a position in March where we can pick him".

"He [Southgate] has called up Jack Cork, who I like and think is a good player, but Jack Wilshere has got to move".

As a result, he had recently said: "He said I need more football".

"I have got no idea about where the name of Jack Wilshere has come from, so where did you get it from?"
