Netflix Cuts All Ties with Kevin Spacey

Netflix Cuts All Ties with Kevin Spacey

The American Beauty star has been fired from the hit show, but it has now emerged he was looking to launch the Presidential by Kevin Spacey line.

"Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey", Netflix said in a statement.

Netflix also said that it would not release the Spacey-produced film Gore, about the writer Gore Vidal, even though it's in post-production.

"We will continue to work with MRC [Media Rights Capital] during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show", the streaming platform said in a statement.

Since the allegations against Spacey came to light, "House of Cards" was indefinitely suspended.

Spacey apologized to actor Anthony Rapp last week who accused Spacey of seducing him when he was only 14. The production team has not yet disclosed a specific date as to when the show can resume its production, although Netflix is reportedly targeting post-Thanksgiving season to wrap up the shoot.

According to TheBlast.com, Spacey filed paperwork regarding the new venture on 24 October (17).

Netflix Inc severed ties on Friday with Kevin Spacey, one of its biggest stars and the lead in its popular drama "House of Cards", after a number of allegations of sexual misconduct against the Oscar-winning actor.

Meanwhile, police officials at Scotland Yard in Britain have opened an investigation into Spacey after a male actor claimed he was sexually assaulted by Spacey in London nine years ago.

According to ABC, a representative from Netflix confirmed that the decision to end House of Cards with season 6 was made before the allegations against Spacey were public. It was the first original online-only television series to garner major Emmy Award nominations.

Netflix suspended production of the upcoming sixth and final season of House of Cards, in which the Oscar-winning Spacey plays United States president Frank Underwood, earlier this week.
