3 keys for Eagles to beat the 49ers

The Philadelphia Eagles huddle during the first quarter of the game against the Washington Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field on October 23, 2017 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The rookie out of Iowa was sacked four times, absorbed 12 QB hits and was intercepted twice in a 33-10 Eagles win that gives them a 7-1 record at the midpoint of the season - the best in the NFL. Carson Wentz was baffled and battered, mainly by blitzes, for the first three quarters.

From Wentz it came: The Wentz Wagon had a rough ride Sunday, but quarterbacks are paid to win, first, last, and always. He finished 18-for-32 for 211 yards, his second lowest total of the season, with two touchdowns and an alarmingly bad interception.

He leads the league with 17 touchdown passes, including 11 in the past three games. But it was far from Wentz's easiest outing.

Wentz was clearly upset with himself after missing Jeffery for a would-be touchdown in the first quarter, throwing a towel onto the bench and slapping his hands together as he paced the sideline. They are set to face off against yet, another NFC opponent as the 0-7 San Francisco 49ers come to town.

The Philadelphia Eagles will have to make do without Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters and veteran middle linebacker Jordan Hicks for the remainder of the season. Rookie defensive end Derek Barnett blocked a 27-yard field goal try by Robbie Gould, which ended Gould's 91-for-91 run over his 13-year career. It would grow even larger when LeGarrette Blount scored early in the fourth quarter and there wasn't much to do other than make sure everyone made it through the rest of the game healthy at that point.
