Freddy Galvis a Gold Glove finalist for 2nd straight year

Three Major Leaguers with local ties were named finalists for the Gold Glove Awards on Thursday.

The first thing that stands out to me is Zobrist as a finalist for second base. In doing so, he became the first Yankees outfielder to win the award since Bernie Williams won four in a row from 1997-2000.

Molina is seeking his ninth Gold Glove. This season he pitched for Atlanta was named a National League pitcher finalist. The other center field finalists are Toronto's Kevin Pillar and Minnesota's Byron Buxton. The 25-year-old is a near-lock to win AL Rookie of the Year and among the candidates for the AL Most Valuable Player Award.

Betts (pictured) was the 2016 American League victor in right field, where he once again was a standout this season. In 2013, Rawlings added a sabermetric component to the Rawlings Gold Glove Award selection process, as part of its collaboration with the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

Mitch Moreland - a 2016 AL Gold Glove victor - is an AL first base finalist with Royals' Eric Hosmer and Indians' Carlos Santana.

Ramirez is up for the award at third base, and not second base where he played at the end of the season. He had won eight in a row from 2008-15 before missing out past year.

Following the ESPN announcement telecast, voting for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award presented by SABR, will begin at www.rawlings.com.

A combination of the national fan vote and the SABR Defensive Index will determine who takes home the honor of each League's top defensive player.
