Singapore passport world's 'most powerful', India's 75th

This is the first time an Asian country has the most powerful

For instance, Singapore passport holders don't need visas for China, Cuba and Brazil.

When it comes to global travel, not all passports are created equal.

The Singapore passport has been re-designed to have additional security features, announced the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) on Thursday (26 October).

Developed by worldwide residence and citizenship advisory firm Arton Capital, the Passport Index is a free online interactive tool that sorts and ranks the world's passports by their cross-border access.

This left the USA with a score of 154 and an index ranking of sixth, the same as Malaysia, Ireland and Canada, and behind 18 other passports.

More and more Indians may be making overseas trips but their passport fares rather poorly when compared to their worldwide counterparts.

Philippe May, Managing Director of Arton Capital's Singapore office said "it is a testament of Singapore's inclusive diplomatic relations and effective foreign policy".

Last year, the United States came close behind the UK, ranking in the fourth spot, with its citizens able to travel visa-free to 156 countries.

This is the first time an Asian country has had the most powerful passport in the world, according to Arton Capital.

Meanwhile, it's good news for Singaporeans, as their national travel document has topped this year's rankings, making it the most powerful passport globally with access to 159 countries.

The report showed other countries as follows: Algeria (46); Liberia, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, and Burundi and Cameroon (47) are African countries with a stronger passport than Nigeria.

"Visa-free global mobility has become an important factor in today's world", shared Armand Arton founder and president of Arton Capital.

You probably won't be too surprised to learn that it's the Singaporean passport.

Germany and Sweden ranked second and third, with a score of 158 and 157, respectively.

Brits can travel to 156 countries visa-free.

In fact, the United Kingdom passport is only joint-fourth - along with Denmark, Finland, Italy, France, Spain, Norway and Japan.
