Del Potro hurt as Nadal, Federer also win

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal Results, Legends Into Quarter-Finals Amid World No.1 Race

The Argentinian fell awkwardly during the deciding set of his last-eight meeting with Viktor Troicki on Friday, damaging his left wrist. Del Potro, who has undergone surgery on both wrists, conferred with a trainer as he repeatedly shook his wrist.

"It's true that at the end of the second, that tie-break, I made a couple of mistakes with the forehand. I would like to play and be 100 per cent".

Federer subsequently eased past Richard Gasquet in straight sets to book a last-four clash, but it remains to be seen whether Del Potro will be fit to face the Swiss on Saturday. Federer claimed two more breaks in the next to seal the deal in an hour and 18 minutes.

Sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov, who saved match points on Wednesday against Ryan Harrison, had a more comfortable day as he beat American 10th seed Sam Querrey 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

Nadal, who extended his winning streak to 15 matches, pegged Dimitrov back with relentless baseline hitting to take the first set easily.

That isn't the only time his fun has been spoiled by the Spaniard, either, with Dimitrov reaching his first Grand-Slam semi-final at the start of the year at the Australian Open - only for Nadal to be waiting, again defeating him by a single set.

Rafael Nadal will try to reach his second Shanghai final in career.

Here, Dimitrov extended their quarterfinal to a third set when he rebounded from a 4-2 deficit to win the second-set tiebreaker.

"I played a very good match, I don't know how many mistakes I made, but very few", said the 16-time Grand Slam victor and top seed in Shanghai. "Of course, being able to win the US Open, Beijing, and being in the semi-finals here ..."

"I think (it was) a great battle between two players who are playing all the time very focused, very intense points".

"I felt good in the first match", the 36-year-old said.

Fourth seed Marin Cilic and Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas go head to head in the other quarter-final.
