Odell Beckham to Undergo Surgery After Suffering Ankle Injury vs. Chargers

Melvin Gordon is congratulated by teammate Keenan Allen after scoring a second quarter touchdown against the Giants

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. left the field on a cart Sunday afternoon with an apparent left leg injury.

OBJ suffered an injury to the same ankle during the preseason, and missed the first game of the season because of it.

After the injury, the Giants gave up a touchdown to the Chargers before losing the game, putting their record at 0-5.

As for the rest of the game, the Giants blew three leads, including two in the second half. Blue jerseys and white trousers clung to players like a second skin as they trudged to their locker room, down one point to the lowly Chargers, down two starting receivers, as down in the dumps as any group in recent franchise memory.

As if the Giants season could not get any worse, the unthinkable happened. Turns out we'll never know, because the mistakes of this game were too much to overcome.

Late in the fourth quarter, Beckham went up for a catch, was hit in the air by a Los Angeles Chargers defender, and came down under the defender, his ankle bending underneath the defender's body.

Not the formula for winning football.
