Kane double helps Spurs edge West Ham in fiery derby

95,000-a-wk Tottenham player promised Poch in Hong Kong he would mend his ways – reports

Speaking ahead of Spurs' London derby clash with West Ham United on Saturday, Pochettino made it clear that whilst he remains a keen admirer of the Belgian's talent, his injury troubles mean that it is hard for the midfielder to play week in, week out. But he loves Tottenham and wants to play here for a long time.

West Ham United hosted Tottenham Hotspur in the lunchtime kickoff to start game week six and it turned out to be a rather frustrating afternoon for the Hammers.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic: "We are disappointed we lost the game".

Yet the West Ham faithful who stayed till the end left proud of their team's fighting spirit, even in defeat.

This was supposed to be a fun, exciting season for West Ham United, but instead it's been anything but, with the Hammers winning just four points in their first five matches. 'West Ham played well, they have a lot of players that can cause you a problem.

Carroll, who cost £15million from Liverpool, has missed 114 matches through a catalogue of injuries since he signed for the Hammers in 2012.

Of players to have scored at least 10 Premier League London derby goals, only Thierry Henry (114 mins) has a better average minutes per goal ratio in these fixtures than Harry Kane (120 mins).

Tottenham manager Pochettino had taken a 49-strong group of players and club staff out for a mid-week meal at a London steak restaurant to strengthen the bond within the squad. Spurs - though they don't get to put it in practice often enough - are one of the most proficient counter attacking sides in the top flight.

Prior to the substitution, West Ham had been pumping balls in behind Tottenham's back line for its front three to chase.

Harry Kane (Spurs): Kane's two goals in the first half kicked off victory for Spurs, and his free-kick started the move that led to Eriksen's record-breaking goal.

Kane, Dele Alli and Eriksen continue to produce the goods when they are given space, while new defender Davinson Sanchez has come through another test after encountering Andy Carroll.

The game live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, with coverage starting at 11.30am. But West Ham wanted it more on that Friday night.

Dembele, when fit and on form, is an integral cog in Tottenham's possession play, with the Belgian's range of passing and vision a key element for the North London side in the final third.
