Pakistan look to seal Independence Cup against World XI

What now for Pakistan cricket after a successful World XI visit

Report, 2nd T20I: Hashim Amla smashed a half century and Thisara Perera provided an excellent finish with a 19-ball 47 as World XI defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the second Twenty20 worldwide on Wednesday.

It looked to be enough for the hosts before Perera's late onslaught - he also took two for 23 from three overs in what was a man-of-the-match performance from the 28-year-old. A whirlwind knock of 47 runs off just 19 deliveries from the Sri Lankan all-rounder, with five towering sixes added for good measure.

World XI got off to a slow start and the required run rate started going up which led to openers Tamim Iqbal and Hashim Amla getting out before making a mark. For the fourth-wicket partnership, Amla and Perera contributed significant 69 runs.

A brisk start to the run chase was crucial for the World XI if they were to chase the target set by Pakistan, and that was exactly what Tamim Iqbal and Hashim Amla delivered. The global World XI will be led by South African captain Faf du Plessis. It was a collective effort from the Pakistan batting line up which kept the scoreboard ticking but they were not allowed to run away with it in the death overs.

Their hearts would ultimately be broken when Perera hit Rumman Raees straight down the middle for a maximum to hand the World XI an unlikely victory.

Malik in particular was in stupendous form, smacking three sixes in a quickfire innings of 39 runs off just 23 deliveries. Imad Wasim was another batsman who contributed significant 15 runs as the Pakistani batsmen failed to hit huge shots and big total.
