Target hiring 100000 holiday workers

Target to Hire More Than 100000 Extra Workers for Holiday Season Rush

Target Corp said on Wednesday it would hire 100,000 workers for the holiday season, 43 percent more than past year, as the retailer goes all out to attract customers at a time when rivals are closing stores and cutting costs. "The increase in hires - which will help us keep improving our guest service - is part of the investments we announced earlier this year", the company said.

The workers will fill numerous roles, including making sure stores are well stocked, online orders are filled, and freight moved from distribution and fulfillment centers.

Additionally, Target will hire 4,500 team members at the company's distribution and fulfillment centers to replenish products to stores and fulfill digital sales throughout the season.

The hiring boom is a sign of retail rebound for Target, which recently announced it was lowering prices on thousands of items. The company will also hold hiring events at every store from Friday, Oct. 13, through Sunday, Oct. 15. "An increasing number of these jobs will involve new technologies and be more customer-centric, as brick-and-mortar retailers seek to create experiences that consumers can not find online".

Wal-Mart has been spending more on paying higher wages and acquiring online retailers and so is unlikely to boost seasonal hiring to the same extent as Target, he said.

That means that, as at Target, many retail jobs for the holidays (as at other times of the year) are increasingly found away from stores.

Opportunities are posted now on Target's seasonal hiring page.
