Rajnath Singh asks J&K government to expedite implementation of PMDP

Amid Article 35A debate, rising encounters Rajnath begins 4-day J&K tour

On the second day of his four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he has no words to describe the bravery of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF.

The Home Minister has issued open invitation to people to meet him for finding solutions to the problems in the embattled State.

The resistance leaders in a statement issued in Srinagar said: "The strike is being observed by the people of Kashmir to prove to the world community and the Indian leadership that genuine people's movement in Kashmir can not be crushed by using military might or harassing the leadership".

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that he was going to Jammu and Kashmir with an "open mind" and is ready to meet with anyone who wishes to help resolve differences through dialogue, as he prepared for a four-day visit to the state.

During the meeting, the two leaders took a detailed review of the projects taken up under Rs 80000 crore PMDP in the State. The former chief minister further said, "At the time when NC-Congress government was ruling in J&K and UPA ruling in the Centre, situation in all aspects was good".

In September 2016, he had visited the state leading an all-party delegation and met people from various sections of society.

The Kashmir watchers are expecting extension of olive branch to the separatists.

The news agency ANI said two others were injured after terrorists attacked a group of policemen at a bus stand.

A militant has been killed by Indian forces in an ongoing encounter at Reban village of Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday morning.

Singh was briefed about the prevailing situation in the Valley, an official said.

Restrictions were imposed by the Srinagar District Magistrate in Maisuma, Safa Kadal, M.R. Gunj, Nowhatta, Khanyar and Rainawari, the police said.

"The nation is supporting the courage of our security forces". The SHO had reportedly requisitioned a bullet-proof vehicle in view of the danger posed by terrorists, but was not provided one.
