Korea prepares 4 THAAD units amid fear over N. Korea

"We estimate this was far bigger than previous nuclear tests".

In the aftermath of Sunday's nuclear test, the White House, along with the American media, has turned its fire on China and Russian Federation, underscoring the fact that the United States confrontation with North Korea is bound up with far broader strategic aims.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who will meet Putin in Vladivostok on Thursday, said before his departure from Japan that "we must make North Korea understand there is no bright future for the country if it pursues the current path". A single battery consists of six, truck-mounted launchers, 48 interceptor missiles, a fire control and communications unit, and the AN/TPY-2 radar.

South Korea had said already that Pyongyang may be gearing up for another rocket test in the aftermath of its nuclear detonation on Sunday, as it seeks to improve the capacity of its intercontinental ballistic missile program.

Washington and Seoul began deploying THAAD before a conservative South Korean government was ousted in March in a corruption scandal.

Sunday's test of what North Korea said was an advanced hydrogen bomb was its largest by far.

The comment was made by Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang during a regular press briefing on Thursday, according to Reuters.

"(Moon) is considering a message (to the public) regarding THAAD deployment", a high level Cheong Wa Dae official said.

At a joint news conference following his meeting with Moon, Putin condemned North Korea's tests, calling Pyongyang's missile and nuclear program a "crude violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions" that "undermines the non-proliferation regime and creates a threat to the security of northeastern Asia".

After a meeting between Trump and his top military and national security advisers, US Defence Secretary James "Mad Dog" Mattis warned North Korea that it faced "a massive military response" to any threat to the US or its allies.

"The Democratic Party and President Moon Jae-in must apologize for fracturing Korea-US alliance, damaging Korea-China relations, and causing discord in the country".

South Korean officials said they continued to monitor for radioactive fallout from the test and for signs of preparations for more activity as they pushed for a stronger worldwide response.

"We are nervous and frightened, but we will fight to the end and win", said activists, many of them senior citizens and long-term rural residents of North Gyeongsang Province. "China has not just influence but has numerous levers that are needed to change behaviour in North Korea", Fallon told BBC radio.

Abe also said the December 2015 agreement reached between Japan and South Korea to resolve the "comfort women" issue should be implemented.

Experts say the distance and trajectory achieved in recent missile tests show that North Korea's claims to be able to hit the United States could be legitimate.
