Indian journalist gunned down outside her home

#GauriLankesh: Attacker fired 7 bullets, 3 hit her, one on forehead

Earlier, Mr Koti, while addressing the protestors, urged the government to ensure safety of journalists and progressive thinkers in the State and crack the case without any delay. Unknown assailants reportedly fired as many as seven bullets at her, and she was hit at forehead and chest regions. Yesterday in the evening she parked her white Etios auto outside the gate of her residence and walked to the main door where three men opened five rounds of fire. Over two years later, there has been little progress in the investigation.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has sought for a report from the Karnataka Government on murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh.

"The attack on the select writers is obviously happening because they are able to mould public opinion. there is a pattern in the way assailants come on motorbikes, kill, and vanish", Karnataka-based writer K Marulasiddappa told the BBC. Her murder case should be investigated and resolved soon.

Murder of Gauri Lankesh has left many concerned about the consequences people face for exercising one's right to freedom of speech and expression.

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leader and member of Parliament M Veerappa Moily were present at the venue and paid their respects to the journalist. Gauri Lankesh has been known for her strict and gutsy stories and she was a huge supported for Hindu acts.

The comments drew a sharp reaction from the BJP which accused Rahul of trying to make "political capital" out of Lankeshs murder and rejected as "irresponsible and baseless" the allegations linking the killing to the people following its ideology.

The party said it was one in the series of murders of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and MM Kalburgi and claimed the four killings are "interconnected".

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani condemned the killing of Lankesh and hoped there would be a speedy investigation and justice delivered.

The murder of Gauri Lankesh, who was a noted journalist and the founder of Gauri Lankesh Patrike has been condemned by Shashi Tharoor, Smriti Irani, Sitaram Yechury amongst other politicians, who took to Twitter to express their condolence and shock about the incident. I think perpetrators must be brought to book immediately.
