Browns trade former first-round pick Cameron Erving to the Chiefs

Cleveland Browns center Cameron Erving prepares to snap the ball in the first half of an NFL football game against the New York Giants Sunday Nov. 27 2016 in Cleveland

The team's Moneyball front office was able to get some value out of the last front office's mistake, landing yet another 2018 draft pick. On Wednesday, just hours after they cut two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden, they traded their former first-round pick, offensive lineman Cameron Erving, to the Chiefs in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

The 19th overall pick in the 2015 draft, Erving has 17 career starts in 29 games and can play center, guard or tackle. They also traded with Buffalo for linebacker Reggie Ragland, the Bills' second-round pick in 2016. The other was No. 12 overall pick Danny Shelton, who's starting at defensive tackle but is now week-to-week with a knee injury. The NFL draft remains a lottery of sorts, so there's no guarantee the team will hit the jackpot, but the Browns now have far more tickets than any other team. The only opening for Erving in the starting lineup in the foreseeable future would possibly be at left guard, where last year's starter, Parker Ehinger, has yet to play in the preseason after tearing his ACL last year.

Erving's versatility could be attractive for the Chiefs, who have looked at multiple players while attempting to fill a "swing tackle" role (can play on either side of the line) in the rotation.
