Sick Lorde stages silent dance performance at MTV Video Music Awards

Kendrick Lamar leads the way with eight nominations at the Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday

Lorde is putting in some extra effort ahead of her MTV Video Music Awards performance today.

And not just any dancing, a very Lorde-esque interpretive dance routine that ended with her collapsing onto the ground.

The singer was diagnosed with the flu and couldn't sing on the night.

It was later revealed that the singer turned up to the event with a awful flu, and it was so bad she needed an IV drip before the show.

At a show that saw Kendrick Lamar sing with someone who literally set themselves on fire, and Shawn Mendes turning on the charm in a rendition of his hit song "There's Nothing Holding Me Back", Lorde's performance definitely stood out, and not really in a good way.

She may have been unable to sing for her performance due to a cold, but Lorde looked incredible in a strapless lavendar feather embellished gown from Filipino fashion designer Monique Lhuillier.

Lorde was sick with a awful flu.

"You can't tell in these pictures but i have the flu so bad i needed an IV", she wrote alongside a photo of her red carpet look.

Towards the end of the song, she was carried through the air and thrown up and down.

"Lorde has arrived looking like an actual princess!"

Lorde released the music video for the second single Perfect Places earlier this month. Follow Be on Facebook,Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
