Ford Mustang GT hits 60 miles per hour in under 4 seconds

2018 Ford Mustang GT does 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds, has 460 horsepower

Pricing for the 2018 Mustang goes live tomorrow, as Ford launches the build-your-own site in advance of the updated Stang going on sale in October.

Overall the vehicle manages 460 horsepower and 420 lb. -fit of torque through its 5.0-liter V8 engine, which Ford redesigned from the ground up for this 2018 Mustang.

"Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time", said Widmann.

The improvements of 25 horsepower and 20 lb-ft over the outgoing Ford Mustang GT come about mostly as a result of the Coyote's new dual-injection system.

Ford's latest Mustang GT is the fastest ever - in its new Drag Strip mode, it can do 0-to-60 miles per hour in under four seconds, which is faster than a lot of expensive sports cars, including the Porsche 911. Power will remain unchanged at 310 horsepower, but torque will swell from 320 lb-ft to 350 lb-ft. In Drag Strip mode with the optional Performance Package and 10-speed auto gearbox, it's capable of hitting 60 miles per hour in less than 5 seconds. A six-speed manual is still available, but the big story is the addition of a 10-speed automatic transmission-co-developed with General Motors, incidentally-that is said to improve acceleration considerably. Ford says the torquier engine and quicker-shifting automatic will get the turbo Stang to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds; we tested an EcoBoost automatic at 5.2 seconds a few years back. Also, a new 10-speed SelectShift transmission helps the GT speed to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds, putting it neck and neck with the SS. It's uniquely tuned for all five drive modes - normal, sport, track, Drag Strip and snow/wet.

New Mustang is due to reach the Lasco Ford showroom this fall. In Performance-pack equipped GTs, Drag Strip mode also changes the settings of the car's MagneRide dampers, helping increase weight transfer to the rear axle, providing greater traction.
