West Bank: Two Palestinians killed in clashes with Israeli security forces

Israeli police take high positions before Friday prayers

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the ongoing tensions since the beginning of October 2015. The three were later killed by the Israeli police.

Israeli forces blocked access to the village of Khobar in the West Bank, home to the 19-year-old Palestinian assailant, who was identified as Omar Al-Abed.

"These incidents must be fully investigated", said the statement which also condemned the killing of three Israeli citizens in West Bank.

Many Muslims refuse to go through the detectors installed at the entrances to the holy site after the July 14 Palestinian attack at the Temple Mount, which claimed lives of two Israeli police officers.

A top adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he was holding consultations with various countries, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco, about the crisis.

The call came one day after Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi held talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri over phone on the latest developments in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa mosque.

Israel's deputy minister for public diplomacy says Palestinian leaders must call for calm as tensions soar over security measures at a major Jerusalem shrine.

"It is astonishing that [the Department of ] State is parroting the false Palestinian narrative", said B'nai B'rith in its statement. We have therefore taken a decisive and firm stance, especially with regard to security coordination.

The man was involved in a clash in the town of el-Eizariyah near Jerusalem, the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, reported. Initially peaceful protests on Friday descended into large-scale rioting in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

At least 57 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli police outside Al-Aqsa, Palestinian Red Crescent said Saturday.

Clashes also erupted at the Qalandia checkpoint, the main Palestinian passageway between Ramallah and Jerusalem, where Israeli security forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Abbas announced Friday he would "freeze" ties with Israel "on all levels" until the new security measures Israel imposed at the Jerusalem site were removed. Despite the fact that magnetometers are used at other Islamic holy sites in the Arab world and in spite the growing risk factor as the frequency of violence increases, officials remain unbending in their rejection of the security devices for Jerusalem.
