First 'Ready Player One' Trailer Wows Comic Con With Retro Vibe

Ready Player One trailer revealed

"To be honest with you, I thought this would never happen", Ernest Cline said at Comic-Con.

The Ready Player One trailer is littered with some fantastic geek references that anyone with a hint of love for the nostalgic will enjoy. Earth has been ravaged by an energy crisis and civilized society is crumbling.

"I just hope it doesn't forget the story when it starts enveloping us in a world that we can see all around us and make our own choices to look at".

For those unfamiliar, Ready Player One centers around the main character Wade Watts (played by Tye Sheridan) who spends his time in a virtual world known as OASIS. The movie is due for release on 30 March 2018 in the UK, US and Australia...

And, keeping in line with the novel itself, the still contained multiple Easter eggs, including a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe tin lunchbox and a photo of Halliday on the cover of Wired magazine.

In an exclusive first look earlier this month, Entertainment Weekly senior writer Anthony Breznican discussed how the different worlds within OASIS are mostly based off '80s and '90s pop culture, emphasizing how the original novel is already "infused" with Spielberg's work and further building the hype. Along with gamers from around the world, Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes and other ruthless competitors who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first.

Wade Watts, played by Tye Sheridan, is the protagonist. In fact, the trailer included pop culture references alluding to Back to the Future, Iron Giant and Akira.
