Twitteratti hails 'true champion' Mithali Raj on her feat

Aussies won't feel pressure, says Lanning

A loss for England and a win for Australia would hand the Aussies a top spot finish, but if both win it will be decided by net run rate.

India skipper Virat Kohli faced embarrassment following goof-up on his congratulatory message to Indian women's cricket team skipper Mithali Raj on Facebook.

New Zealand Captain Suzie Bates top scored with 44 as they were bowled out for 209. The feat was achieved when she ran past 43 runs against Australia eventually eclipsing the record of England cricketer Charlotte Edwards' 5992 runs in 191 matches. Great achievement and thoroughly deserved. As country awaits women in blue to bring the World Cup home, we can only hope that Mithali Raj and the team will change the mindset of the people and encourage more girls to play cricket and other sports for India.

"Even for New Zealand, probably, it will be a do-or-die match". India has always had the problem that when faced with the crunch matches, the team does not necessarily step up. "If we perform again like this, it will not be enough", Mithali said post-match on Wednesday.

"We really have to improve all over the pitch, especially producing more consistency from how we are bowling and fielding", she added.

After raising hopes of scoring big by amassing 281 against England, India's batswomen seem to have gone into slow motion mode.

At Taunton: Sri Lanka 101 in 40.3 overs (Shabnim Ismail three for 14, Dane van Niekerk four for 24) lost to South Africa 104 for two in 23.1 overs (Laura Wolvaardt 48 n.o., Mignon du Preez 38 n.o.).

That scenario would keep them in Bristol, where they've played four of their six matches, but finishing second or third would see the side move north to Derby.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Australia struck early to reduce India to 1/26 only for skipper Mithali Raj and opener Punam Raut (106) to put on 155 for the second wicket.

Talking about the milestone, Mithali said: "I think that since I've had a long career, (the milestone) is part of it". Who has scored the most runs in ODI cricket. 4 and 6 reflect. En route her knock of 69, she reached the coveted landmark of 6,000 runs in this format.

Instead, India had to make do with 226 for seven, with Perry (two for 37) the pick of the Australian bowlers who combined to claim five wickets for just 17 runs towards the end of the innings.
