The unidentified man fed pleas for help to customers through the receipt slot.

"We have a once in a lifetime situation that you will probably never see or hear again", Corpus Christi Police Senior Officer Richard Olden told KRIS TV.

One note read: 'Please help.

The bank building was closed for repairs and the guy got trapped in the ATM room while he was trying to fix the door lock. I'm stuck in here, and I don't have my phone. Apparently, several customers thought the scribbled messages were a prank and ignored them until one patron got sufficiently spooked.

The note asked someone to call the contractor's boss and gave a phone number, KZTV said.

Police said some customers thought the notes were a joke, but one made a decision to give them call.

Finally, one ATM customer took the note seriously and called police. "So we're all thinking this is a joke - this has got to be a joke", Olden said.

The man, whose name has not been released, became stuck in the machine while fixing a lock, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported. "It's got to be a joke". It was just insane, ' he added.

The contractor was stuck in the room for about two hours before his boss arrived, and police had to kick down a door to get the man out of the ATM room.
