Attack on Amarnath yatris crime against humanity: Sonia

Rajnath Singh

Defence minister Arun Jaitley termed the terrorist attack on Amarnath Yatra as "the most reprehensible act", PTI said.

# HM Rajnath Singh has spoken with J&K CM & Guv, assured fullest assistance to help the injured. He also spoke with DG Police.

"My thoughts are with all those who lost their loved ones in the attack in J&K". My sympathies to the families & prayers for the injured.?

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the terrorist attack and said that India would never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks. "The MHA is closely monitoring the situation", the tweet said.

According to initial reports, the killed pilgrims were from Gujarat and were returning after paying obeisance at the shrine. The advisory issued by the shrine board clearly asks yatris to register as this helps in security arrangements.

The 90th and 40th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been rushed to the spot.

Valsad Collector R C Kharsan, said, "We are still figuring out how come the bus is from Valsad when the registration says Sabarkantha".

Another Amarnath pilgrim, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was killed when a cooking gas cylinder exploded in his bus in South Kashmir's Kulgam district today.

The police claimed the bus driver had violated rules for the pilgrimage, which state that no yatra vehicle should be on a highway after 7 pm. She said the yatris were esteemed guests of Kashmir and perpetrators of the crime had dealt a death blow to the ethos and culture of the state.

The procession winds through a part of the disputed territory of Kashmir where Muslim separatists have attacked Hindus in the past, prompting thousands of Indian soldiers and police officers to be deployed along the pilgrims' path to provide protection.

The yatra has been going on smoothly from the two routes - the traditional Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and Baltal.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to condemn the incident. The report said that around 1.2 lakh pilgrims have registered themselves this year. "It is a henious act".

They said Home Minister sought details of the attack from CM and Governor and also directs officials to ensure foolproof security in future.
