Pacquiao loses controversial decision to Horn in Australia

"I thought Horn would get knocked out but he came out blazing, he gave it his all", Van Heerden said.

"I've just believed since I was very young that I could do this".

Freddie Roach plans to have a "long talk" with Manny Pacquiao following his shock defeat to Jeff Horn, with the trainer admitting to concerns over his fighter's ability to combine a top-level boxing career with his duties as a senator in the Philippines.

With blood pouring from both sides of his forehead after accidental butts, the southpaw launched a fierce assault on Horn which almost ended the contest in round nine.

Pacquiao alleged that Nelson was too liberal in allowing Horn to use wrestling and rough tactics while he was being pinned on the ropes many times during the bruising bout. "Very tough. I didn't expect that tough", said the 38-year-old, who has won world titles at eight weight divisions. "It's okay, it's part of the game".

A unanimous decision for the WBO welterweight title was handed down in favor of the 29-year-old Australian on Sunday, July 2, but Atlas did not mince words at ringside as he let the world know of his disagreement with the judges.

Pacquiao said he would "absolutely" return for a contracted rematch against Horn.

Mayweather, who retired in 2015 after winning all 49 of his professional fights as a boxer, is back in training at age 40 to face mixed martial artist Conor McGregor in a boxing match.

"This is no joke, which one does he want? Which one does he want, the walking stick or the gloves?"

The loss stunned people in the Philippines, where Pacquiao, now a high-profile senator, has always been a national hero.

"Manny Pacquiao is an absolute warrior, a legend of the sport". And they highlighted statistics that showed Pacquiao threw twice as many punches.

But Pacquiao's conditioning trainer, the Los Angeles-based former Australian heavyweight Justin Fortune, was critical of the referee and the judging. "It should be the other way", he said.

"We would like to echo the stand of many boxing followers on the possible errors of the referee and the judges who officiated the subject fight", their statement said. You could sense that he was willing to do whatever it took to get the victory. "Never leave it in the judge's hands".

"Even on TV, I can remember watching programs saying the Manny Pacquiao fight in Brisbane".

He dominated the later rounds and the result could have gone his way in front of 50,000 people at Suncorp Stadium.

"Great day for Australians; sad day for Filipinos", he said.
