Tracking the Latest Paul George Trade Rumors

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

For the Pacers, it's an unfortunate bit of news that suddenly changes their summer plans drastically. The Lakers may have to give up last year's No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram in order to receive George but Ingram will certainly be a young star that the Pacers can build around for the future.

Ironically, George's well-meant intentions will put pressure on the Pacers to work out a deal with another team, most likely the Lakers, to move George in exchange for assets, rather than just let him walk into free agency. George stated that he loves Magic but they have yet discussed the subject between each other.

A trade would also ensure the Lakers could offer George the best possible contract. George is a Southern California native and playing for the Lakers would represent a homecoming for him.

It makes sense for the Pacers to remain patient when it comes to their plans with George.

As a rookie, George played 20.7 minutes per game, averaging 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds during his time on the floor.

This past Friday at a charity softball game in Indianapolis, George told The Associated Press: "I am a Pacer".

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports that George told team officials that he will not re-sign with the team following the 2017-18 season and hopes to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent.

He helped lead the Pacers to Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014, only to fall to LeBron James and the Miami Heat both times. Whatever happens, the offseason has already been insane, and the draft is still five days away. It hurt. It hurt that there were players that didn't see what a great opportunity it would be to play for a premiere sports team in the best market with the best fans in a top three building in the league.
