For the Pacers, it's an unfortunate bit of news that suddenly changes their summer plans drastically. The Lakers may have to give up last year's No. 2 overall pickBrandon Ingram in order to receive George but Ingram will certainly be a young star that the Pacers can build around for the future.
Ironically, George's well-meant intentions will put pressure on the Pacers to work out a deal with another team, most likely the Lakers, to move George in exchange for assets, rather than just let him walk into free agency. George stated that he loves Magic but they have yet discussed the subject between each other.
A trade would also ensure the Lakers could offer George the best possible contract. George is a Southern California native and playing for the Lakers would represent a homecoming for him.
It makes sense for the Pacers to remain patient when it comes to their plans with George.
As a rookie, George played 20.7 minutes per game, averaging 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds during his time on the floor.
