Sensex, Nifty open on flat-to-positive note in early trade

BSE Sensex opens higher

While, BSE mid-cap Index closed up by 0.2% at 14834 whereas, BSE small-cap Index closed up by 0.2% at 15472. Some level of circumspection ahead of Wednesday's RBI policy review outcome resulted in profit-booking. London's FTSE edged higher 0.06 per cent.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also eased by 10.15 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 9,653.75 at 1100 hours.

In 30-share Sensex, TCS dipped the most by plunging 3.59 per cent to Rs 2,521.50 after brokerage firm Nomura cut its rating to "reduce" from "neutral".

European markets held steady in early trade as polls opened in the United Kingdom general election after a campaign of three phases marred by terror attacks.

Asian stocks are fluctuating in cautious trade as North Korea fired several anti-ship cruise missiles off its east coast and investors await China trade data for May. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) had also bought shares worth a net Rs 13.62 crore.

Overseas, most Asian stocks gained ahead of a number of news events with global implications. Taiwan market dropped by 0.20%.

However, Tata Steel rose by 3.48 per cent followed by Dr Reddy 3.15 per cent, HDFC 1.83 per cent and Sunpharma 1.58 per cent.

European stocks ended Wednesday's choppy session marginally lower even as banks turned in an impressive performance after Spain'sBanco Popular was acquired by Banco Santander. Infosys too shed 0.54 percent to Rs 956.30, while Wipro lost 0.06 percent to Rs 548.50.

The BSE Realty index ended the session at 1,954.11.

Sector-wise, the S&P BSE banking index rose by 193.07 points, the automobile index by 167.90 points, and the healthcare index by 148.51 points. The decline in both the indices was higher than the Sensex fall in percentage terms.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices outperformed benchmarks, up 0.2-0.3 percent despite the balanced market breadth.
