Johanna Konta into Aegon Open final after win over Magdalena Rybarikova

Johanna Konta beats Ashleigh Barty to book semi-final spot in Aegon Open

The World Number Eight, who suffered a disappointing early exit at the French Open earlier this month, has looked far more at home on the faster grass courts of Nottingham, and she took little time in racing to a first set win over her bewildered Slovakian opponent.

The 20-year-old Vekic came through a close encounter with former Roland Garros finalist Lucie Safarova 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), after two hours and 50 minutes.

The British No1 and top seed maintained her record of having yet to drop a set in the tournament as she closed in on her first WTA title on home soil.

Konta will now take on either fifth seed Lucie Safarova or Donna Vekic in Sunday's final.

Russia's Natalia Vikhlyantseva upset Ana Konjuh in straight sets at the Ricoh Open in 's-Hertogenbosch to reach her first WTA final.

Her preparations continue today with a semi-final match against Magdalena Rybarikova, the world No117 from Slovakia.

"I'm looking to constantly improve and evolve as a player, regardless of surface", Konta said in her post-match press conference.

She added: "I was able to deal with the conditions well". In only their second week together as a pairing, Robson and Rae will meet either Konta and Belgian partner Yanina Wickmayer or Australian duo Monique Adamczak and Storm Sanders, who play later on Saturday (not before 4:30pm). "I worked very hard to get myself back into that second set and stop Ashleigh from running away with it".

On Saturday, the World No. 8 will face either Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova or USA player Kristie Ahn.
