Scottish Conservatives want fishing protected as part of Brexit

Scotland's devolved nationalist government said on Thursday it wanted to meet all parties to work out "the least bad Brexit for Scotland", arguing that the change in the political landscape made such talks necessary.Scots voted to stay in the European Union in last year's referendum, but their choice was outweighed by England, and the United Kingdom as a whole voted 52-48 percent for Brexit.

Some 36% of those quizzed said Ms Sturgeon should resign as First Minister, but a larger percentage - 47% - said she should stay on.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon accused the ruling Conservatives on Thursday of jeopardizing the Irish peace process by seeking support to govern from a Northern Irish party.

Ms Davidson quoted a Survation Poll which said 60 per cent of Scots did not want another independence referendum and said: "This has got nothing to do with listening to the people".

Asked if her call for a new vote was wrong, she said: "I have said I will reflect on the outcome of the election and I will do that carefully and in discussion with colleagues across the SNP".

More than a quarter of those questioned (27%) said the First Minister and SNP leader should continue her plans for IndyRef2, while 13% gave no view. It is all about how she can find a way to refloat or rebrand her sinking dream of independence. She says she's listening to the folk of Scotland and so she should. Ms Davidson, who has been widely praised for her leadership, suggested the party should concentrate more on the economy and free trade in Brexit negotiations, rather than curbing immigration levels.

Ms Davidson said: "Let's cut to the chase today".

"In short, in just four days' time we are going to be led off the cliff edge by a Tory Government devoid of legitimacy and credibility and utterly clueless about what it is trying to achieve". Ruth Davidson has made clear that Brexit is not just going to be a "Tory project", but must involve other parties as a humbled Theresa May told Conservative MPs "I got us into this mess and I'll get us out", writes The Herald.
