Alabama man gets electrocuted after sleeping with iPhone

Man almost electrocuted after falling asleep near phone put on charging

32-year-old Wiley Day from Huntsville, Alabama was electrocuted when he fell asleep next to his charging iPhone.

Mr Wiley Day's metal dog-tag chain had become a conductor for electricity when the charger head came loose from the extension cord.

Day told WAAY 31 that, while he was sleeping his dog tag necklace slipped between the iPhone's charger and extension cord, which had loosened.

Doctors at the hospital said that he suffered second- and third-degree burns to his hands and neck. On standing up he shouted out loud, "Oh my God, I think I just got electrocuted".

"Thursday morning is probably the most scariest morning I've ever been through in my life", Day told WAAYTV. "I describe it as the most demonic feeling that you should never feel".

Wiley Day from Huntsville, Alabama was electrocuted while charging his iPhone overnight.

"Charge your phone away from you", he told WAAY-TV. And so the electricity travelled through the chain right to Day's neck.

In a Facebook post, he said his current pain level was "only about a 2, but I don't know what's to come". The man's doctors said that the individual could consider himself lucky to be alive, considering the electric shock he received.

Last year, even the New York Police Department warned against the common practice by tweeting out some terrifying photos.

It's like the very amusing Adam Ray said, "The best part of waking up is not Folgers in your cup".

Though the majority occur in the workplace, the group recommends taking precautions when using appliances and other electrical devices at home, including extension cords. Instead, the dogtags he had been wearing had fallen into a gap between the charger plug and an extension cable, touched the metal prongs, and sent 110 volts through his neck. However, now that Day has been through so such, he takes full care not to leave the phone charging while he is sleeping and advises the same to others. Thankfully, Day managed to yank the necklace off somehow, and let out a scream, which an adult niece that lives in the same house heard. "I mean, it's not worth it", Day added.
