Carrie Fisher, Reynolds celebrated with Star Wars tributes

The entire memorial will also be live streamed for those who can not attend.

The mother and daughter were laid to rest in a private service in December. He explained that the service "is a show and not a memorial because my mother didn't like memorials and funerals".

The service was also livestreamed on Debbie's website. Todd Fisher, the brother of the late "Star Wars" alum welcomed on stage several personalities.

Fisher, 60, died on Dec 27, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from Britain where she had been shooting the third season of the British comedy Catastrophe.

Reynolds, 84, an Oscar-nominated actress who shot to fame after starring in Singin' in the Rain at age 19, died the following day after being briefly hospitalised. It was a very peaceful exit that only my mother could've orchestrated.

Inside, there was an area set up featuring costumes from Fisher and Reynolds' most iconic roles.

Personal friends of the beloved mother (Reynolds) and daughter (Fisher) like Dan Aykroyd, Kat Kramer, Connie Stevens, Ruta Lee, and Peter Asher were joined by R2-D2 himself. "I dislodged a brussels sprout from her throat [one time] and if I was with her I might have been able to save her again".

The Canadian actor and comedian fought back tears as he said: "We shouldn't be here so soon in our lives". Actresses Renee Russo, Anne Blythe and Beverly D'Angelo were among the stars who arrived before the ceremony's start.

"So what would the offspring of Princess Leia and Elwood Blues have turned out like amusing, quick, spiritual, haunted, pursued, talented, acerbic, deviant, genius, tech motor device engine and music savvy - in other words, we would have had [Carrie's brother] Todd Fisher". He recounted Fisher's assessment of the film: "It's stupid and it's awful". "You know, she's a little like Carrie but she's a lot like my mother, which means she's going to be another Molly Brown", he continued. "When Carrie Fisher passed, it actually like a member of the family had left us".

When speakers weren't delivering one-liners - some that had been uttered or penned by Fisher and Reynolds - music and dance took over the stage. Carrie Fisher battled mental illness and addiction, exploring her struggles in the book "Postcards from the Edge". The caption was so flawless: "Then there was the time she promised if I went 1st-she'd heckle my funeral". "You have to take care of those that need", a frail Reynolds said.

As USA Today notes, Akroyd and Fisher were engaged to be married for a short time in the "70s before her marriage to Paul Simon". He recounted how Fisher took him on global trips and "gave me so many firsts".

"You pay tribute by showing all the great home movies, all the pictures that Carrie and Debbie and I filmed", said Todd. Family friend Gavin de Becker, a prominent security expert who grew up with Carrie, offered a hilarious series of anecdotes, including noting that he had sex for the first time at her house.

It was one of many tales about the actresses that drew boisterous laughter.

Hundreds of guests filed into an auditorium on the grounds of the Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills cemetery, where the pair's ashes are buried together.
