Canada Goose, known for its pricey winter coats, files for an IPO

It filed for a $100 million IPO, but that number is a placeholder and likely to change.

Canada Goose is going after the public markets.

Canada Goose has applied for the listing of its stock on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol "GOOS".

The filing specifies that Bain will continue to have a controlling interest even after raising the corpus through IPO. Proceeds from the IPO will be used to pay down debt and for working capital and general corporate purposes, the filing shows. In 2016, the manufacturer said they brought in almost $291 million in revenue, with more than $100 million of that sum coming from the U.S. Canada Goose initially launched in 2015, and opened its first retail store in NY previous year. Adjusted net income for the period was $30.1 million. "Consumer surveys conducted on our behalf indicate that our customers are looking for additional Canada Goose products, particularly in key categories such as knitwear, fleece, footwear, travel gear and bedding".

Starting in Toronto, the brand now has a presence in 36 countries across the globe through a wide network of about 2500 wholesalers.

In 2013, when Bain acquired a majority stake in Canada Goose, the company was valued at about $250 million, people familiar with the matter have said. No pricing terms were disclosed.

The Canadian bank CIBC Capital Markets scored the lead advisory role, with Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, and RBC Capital Markets also on the deal.
