These Are the Two Republicans Who Voted Against DeVos

The reason this pick is being zeroed in on is two Republican senators (Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska) have announced they're breaking with the G.O.P and voting against DeVos.

Betsy DeVos was confirmed by the Senate as education secretary on Tuesday, squeaking through thanks to a history-making vote by Vice President Mike Pence. Two Republicans broke from party ranks to vote against DeVos.

"Betsy DeVos has demonstrated that she is fundamentally unqualified to lead the Education Department, and it's a shame that Republicans voted to confirm one of their major donors instead of looking out for our children". Chuck Schumer said in a speech Monday.

"I am a campus intervention specialist, so my job is to support children who need an advocate and I'm very very anxious that those kids I support and wake up for each and every morning are going to lose hope", Pamela Zablocki said.

Sen. David Perdue, R-Sea Island, reiterated Tuesday a statement he made Friday in support of the Trump nominee.

"We just want to serve our students as best as we possibly can and we need leadership to do so". She is a champion of charter schools which are being funded publicly but are operating outside the state school systems.

"Betsy DeVos is a reformer, and she is going to be a great Education Sec. for our kids!" Republicans could not allow the confirmation for Sen.

The Senate votes tomorrow on the nomination of Betsy DeVos for education secretary - and Senate Democrats are pulling an all-nighter to oppose her in the hopes of drawing one more GOP lawmaker to their side.

The tie-breaking vote was an, until now unprecedented occurrence in a Cabinet confirmation.
