Oklahoma City Thunder Game Recap: Running Out of Gas

And while Durant is now reviled by many Thunder fans, Westbrook has become an even more beloved figure in the city, especially after signing a contract extension last fall and saying, "There's nowhere else I would rather be than Oklahoma City". The Thunder played up-tempo in the first half, exposing the Cavs' exhausted legs after playing a tough game the night before.

"He is who he is", said Cavs coach Tyronn Lue. But the Big Three and Co. wanted to continue their roll and wrap up the roadie undefeated. In his three previous games, OKC's second-year backup point guard scored a combined total of only 11 points on 5-of-17 shooting. The Cavaliers went 7-8 in January, which was the first losing month for LeBron James since February 2006 - his third season in the league.

Westbrook: 29 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

Russell Westbrook moved into a tie for third place for triple-doubles in a season during the Oklahoma City Thunder's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 23-year-old New Zealander went nine of 14 from the floor en route to 20 points and grabbed nine offensive boards among a game-high haul of 13 rebounds.

Overall, Oklahoma City owned the glass 51-35, while forcing Cleveland to commit 16 errant turnovers.

Cleveland finished the road trip with a 3-1 mark.

Thunder star Russell Westbrook, who played with Durant for those eight seasons in OKC and made up one of the NBA's most electrifying tag teams, isn't going to tell the fans how to react to Durant's return either way.

Turning Point - The Cavaliers took a quick lead on Thursday, but their fatigue was evident early - with OKC taking an eight-point advantage after one quarter. As a result, the Cavaliers (23-30 FTA) kept the game close from the charity stripe. He was very iffy coming into this one as the Cavs considered sitting their Big 3, but played very well.

By the Numbers - .645 ...

Quotable - Derrick Williams, on joining the Wine and Gold ... "That's the ability to communicate and being on a great team like I'm on". It's just, when you combine Westbrook's competitiveness with, say, this Jordan commercial, it's hard to buy the idea that there aren't at least some hard feelings between the two. "That's just the championship mentality that everybody has here". Four games in six nights, it was just good to fight through and not give in.

With the Warriors now sitting four games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs for the top spot in the Western Conference, and the Thunder resting their playoff hopes largely on whether or not Westbrook can keep up his scoring tear he's been on this season (the team is now in the seventh spot, seven games ahead of the Denver Nuggets), there's a good chance that if there's not tension between the two like Durant says, these next few games and a possible meeting in the playoffs, could create it. Lue should have given them the night off.
