New York City FC striker David Villa rules out Sporting Gijon loan

MONTREAL QUE. APRIL 8 2016- Montreal Impact's Ignacio Piatti stretches out for a ball during practice at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal Friday

The 35-year-old, who began his playing career at Sporting, has just completed his second season with NYCFC and told Cadena Cope: "I am under contract for another year".

"I will go to Spain on December 16 for the holidays but will return to NY on January 8 because my children have to go back to school".

The striker was the first player signed by NYCFC. "They might score a lot of goals but I'm not sure they'd win many games in terms of balance".

Villa finished one goal behind Wright-Phillips, the MLS leader. "It's a very important recognition as you need to get the highest votes from not only the players of the league, but also the coaches and a select group of journalists".

The end-of-season all-star squad recognizes the league's top players at each position as determined by media, MLS players and MLS club staff.

"It's a big day for me because this is one of the things I said I wanted to do when I came here two years ago".

Altidore scored 10 goals over the last 15 games of the regular season and has scored in all five playoff matches. He played in Europe, he won the Champions League, he won the World Cup, he won the European Championships but he came to this club with humility and love for the game.

It's possible that Wright-Phillips and Kljestan split the vote, with people deciding which of the two was more valuable to the Red Bulls, while Villa benefitted from being the only choice from NYCFC.
