Samsung faces potential class action in US over Note 7

Disgruntled customers have dialed up what's believed to be the first USA class-action lawsuit over Samsung exploding Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, according to federal court records.

The consumers discontinued using their Note7s only to find that Samsung did not have replacement smartphones available, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, Newark division by users John Waudby, Robert Spuntak and Mohamad Ibrahim. Samsung will also pay for the raw materials suppliers have bought to produce Note 7 parts.

Earlier reports suggested that Galaxy Note 7 would be the first device from Samsung to get Android 7.0 Nougat update. Especially when you see smoke coming out of those Note 7 boxes. The FAA has gone to the extent of saying that airlines should not allow passengers to board aircraft if they insist on carrying their Note 7s with them.

The suit filed by McCuneWright takes a slightly different angle from the Note 7 fires where consumers are primarily suing the smartphone maker for the manner in which it handled the recall.

Samsung is recalling its Galaxy Note7 phones due to documented propensity to explode, but only 10 percent of customers are actually turning in their phones, reports the Korea JoongAng Daily. But, unfortunately, due to the battery exploding issue, the Korean company has chose to permanently cease Galaxy Note 7 production and supply.

September 8 - US Federal Aviation Administration advises passengers to not turn on or charge Note 7 smartphones aboard aircraft or stow them in plane cargo.

"Guests must not carry Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in their checked-in baggage, in cabin baggage, or on their person", the airline said.

The South Korean tech giant's head has promised to do everything possible in finding the root of the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

In the USA, taking a Galaxy Note 7 on a US aircraft is a crime, one punishable by a severe fine and up to ten years in prison.
